Scientific studies indicate that persons who consume a diet rich in fruits and vegetables often have a lower prevelance of risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) such as hypertension, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. This is a great opportunity to implement a healthy diet while enjoying some of our local Farmer’s freshest edibles.

NEWS RELEASE

Presentation of New Signs for Fire Department’s
Blood Pressure Screening Program

The Community Cardiovascular Council invites all to join us for this event,
Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 10 AM at Fire Station No. 9 located
at 2235 Capital Street, behind Savannah High School.

May is High Blood Pressure and Stroke Awareness Month

The Community Cardiovascular Council’s Chairman, Dr. Jim Metts, kicked-off “May-High Blood Pressure Awareness Month”, along with Savannah Fire Chief Charles Middleton, when they both unveiled new street signs that inform the public of free blood pressure checks at each of Savannah’s 15 Fire Stations.

During May, Dr. Metts and Chief Middleton are encouraging adult citizens to look for the new signs on the street and to stop by a Fire Station and get a free blood pressure check. Uncontrolled high blood pressure is the leading risk factor for a stroke, a heart attack and kidney failure. The ONLY way to know if your blood pressure is HIGH is to have it checked by a trained person such as a Savannah Fireman.

A blood pressure check only takes a few minutes and it could save your life. So stop by your nearest Fire Station today.
